  • Cheap way to get more PCIe lanes

If you don't need lots of cores (compared to other Threadrippers), this works well. I have had no problems. Installation is more complicated that most mainstream CPUs, but not difficult. I did not have to reseat it in the socket or anything like that. It requires much more thermal paste than a mainstream CPU. It works with the lower TDP & price X399 motherboards. I'm using it in an ASRock X399 Phantom Gaming 6. It is running my NAS, for which is overkill except for the PCIe lanes that I need for a NIC & M.2 carrier card at x16.

  • PCIE Lanes for Cheap

I've had this since it launched back in 2017, its been great. I have 3 huge nvme drives, a dual NIC, and an RTX2080. I use it for gaming, adobe lightroom, and all manner of projects. Its extremely good at the desktop stuff. As to gaming, I have found that at 1440p DOTA2 only gets 135FPS, most games get about 140FPS, DOOM2016 gets the max of 200FPS. For a CPU that isn't intended for gaming, I find that its pretty good. I am told that the downside is latency, but I have only percieved this in minecraft, where it is very bad if I max out the view distance. At any rate, with the prices for this and x399 being so low, the point of this review is to let you know that you can use the 1900x to do a lot of stuff, and for cheap if you need that I/O.

  • Fast processor

Works very well under high threads applications (ie. On1photo Raw, Adobe CS, and video rendering software)

  • Fun to play around with Threadripper but prob best to stick with Ryzen for gaming

Designed more for a work horse, not ideal for gaming unless you’re willing to risk it with an OC
